2013 T-Shirts Are Here!

The original Macintosh used 400 KB floppy disks. In that limited space, countless nerds got their start. This shirt celebrates a time when software — like so many things — was simpler and smaller.

Instead of having shirts printed locally and spending hours packing and mailing shirts, I’m using Teespring this year. It is like Kickstarter for t-shirts, sorta. You can pre-order now by visiting this fancy link between now and Monday, May 13. Estimated delivery is by May 27, so you’ll have plenty of time to gets yours broken in before WWDC.

We’ve got to have 50 shirts ordered for the batch to be printed, so be sure to go check it out. As always, thanks for supporting 512 Pixels.

Closing the Book

Aaron Mahnke:

To that end, the April edition of the Read & Trust Magazine is the last issue we publish for the foreseeable future. The group itself is still alive and thriving, and we have lots of great ideas in the works for the coming year. Right now, though, my energy is required elsewhere, so for the moment all regular publications will be put on hold.

When in Atlanta last month together, Aaron and I discussed this at great length. Props to Aaron for seeing that and doing the hardest thing when it comes to projects: saying goodbye when the time is right.

Florida-Bound

As I wrote about in March, my family and I are headed to Florida for a week at Disney and Give Kids the World, thanks to Make a Wish.

While I’m gone, Shawn Blanc and Myke Hurley will be filling in for me on the site.

I owe a big thanks to those two guys for keeping the lights on, and to all of you wonderful readers for supporting me over the years, but for now, I’m turning my phone off and am going to spend a week in the sun with my wife and kids.

Big Week: 70Decibels Acquired by 5by5

My friend and podcast co-host Myke Hurley:

As the network continues to grow, our ambitions grow with it. Our hosts put out shows that deserve a larger audience, and my dream of a career in podcasting is within reach. To get to the next level, we need help. We need a better infrastructure and even more great people to support the network we have created. That’s why I’m thrilled to announce that 70Decibels is going to be moving to the 5by5 Podcasting Network.

I am excited that the 512 Podcast is moving to 5by5 as part of this deal. There will be a few changes coming to the show, and we’ll be sharing those soon.

Myke and I started Ungeniused, our first podcast in October 2011, after I was a guest on the now-defunct Bro Show a couple of times. Myke was very gracious to me as a guest, and is the best co-host I could ask for. I’m thrilled for him today, as it marks a major milestone in his quest to become a full-time podcaster.

Reviews Are Weird

I was excited to be able to write for Randy Murray’s site, and took the chance to write about writing reviews. Meta, perhaps, but it was a lot of fun. First Today, Then Tomorrow is a great site. If you’re a writer, this should be in your RSS collection.

On System Extension

In July, I launched System Extension, a magazine-like counterpart to 512 Pixels. It’s been a moderate success, but as this is the week for such news, I’m announcing today that I’m putting the project on ice.

It’s been a lot of fun covering oddball stuff for the magazine, but everyone is better served to have that content on the site itself. (In fact, my Pippin article was slated to be in this month’s edition.

It was a fun experiment, and to those of you who downloaded System Extension, thank you.
