Apple Looking into Reports of Pink Squares on M1 Mac mini HDMI Displays →

Joe Rossignol, MacRumors:

In an internal memo this week, obtained by MacRumors, Apple informed service providers that it is aware of and investigating an issue that may result in “pink squares or pixels” appearing on displays connected to an M1 Mac mini.

According to this report, Apple has a suggestion on clearing up the small squares:

  • Put the Mac mini to sleep
  • Wait two minutes and wake the Mac mini
  • Unplug the display from the Mac mini, and then plug the display back in
  • Adjust the display’s resolution in System Preferences > Displays

That sure makes me think this is something that’ll be fixed in a future version of macOS Big Sur. I’ve gotten a few emails from readers and listeners about this, so hopefully that fix comes soon.
