Congrats to my buddy Glenn on joining The Magazine as Executive Editor. I worked with Glenn on my article, and it was nothing short of great. Glenn’s a real pro, and I think his joining will only enhance what’s already my favorite app in Newsstand.

Fox Blames Obama Win on Media Bias⇢
Rich Noyes at Fox:
Fox News and other media outlets have projected that President Obama has been reelected to a second term. If, in celebrating his victory Obama wanted to give credit where credit is due, he might want to think about calling some of America’s top journalists, since their favorable approach almost certainly made the difference between victory and defeat.
LOL.
Today’s Front Pages⇢
Four more years.
Objective Endorsements⇢
Five newspapers partially-owned by Bain Capital have backed its co-founder Mitt Romney, and none have endorsed President Obama.
While that’s fairly damning, I really dislike that newspapers endorse candidates. Even though journalism professors would say that the Editorial and News departments are separate, that’s a hard thing to pull off in reality.
Colbert on ‘Meet the Press’⇢
I love Stephen Colbert. His use of his “idiot character” really is brilliant.
On ‘The Magazine’⇢
Marco Arment:
Introducing The Magazine: a modern iOS Newsstand publication for geeks like us that’s loosely about technology, but also gives tech writers a venue to explore other topics that like-minded geeks might find interesting.
The Magazine’s introductory article explains it in detail, but here’s the short version: the same way Build and Analyze is for developers but not always about development, The Magazine is for geeks like us and will often, but not always, be about technology.
Colbert Interviews Breaking Bad’s Vince Gilligan⇢
Great piece.
Passbook deemed disappointing by tech blogger⇢
Megan Lavey-Heaton at TUAW:
Passbook is what I’ve been most eager to try iOS 6. My husband teases me about poking through a wallet full of cards for different locations, and one of my favorite apps is the Starbucks app, which allows me to use my iPhone to pay for my drinks. Passbook was billed as the iPhone’s digital wallet, which can be used to store boarding passes, movie tickets, coupons, store loyalty cards, etc. – all into a single place.
NYC Fox affiliate blows iPhone 5 story⇢
Michael Rose at TUAW:
As pointed out by 9to5Mac, the coverage package of interviews with line-waiters at the 5th Avenue store who are anticipating the Friday launch took a rather surreal turn. The reporter breathlessly cites “a laser keyboard and holographic images” for the new iPhone, as a clip plays showing those capabilities.
It seems Fox’s lack of concern for truthful reporting extends beyond politics.
Boring⇢
Harry Marks has rounded up some key quotes of the world’s dumbest tech writing concerning the iPhone 5.
Macworld.com launches redesign⇢
Bravo and congrats to the Macworld team. The site looks great.
On Paywalls and Better Content⇢
Mathew Ingram:
Some proponents of newspaper paywalls — including a columnist in the Columbia Journalism Review — argue that charging readers for content results in better journalism than the free and advertising-supported model used by many digital publishers. But the evidence for this assertion is dubious at best.
