Chili’s Donate Profits Day This Monday⇢

Chili’s is proud to support the lifesaving work of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® — finding cures and saving children with pediatric cancer and other deadly diseases. Our annual #MoreHope campaign invites guests to make a special donation to our friends at St. Jude.

As we work towards our goal of $50 million in donations to St. Jude, we’re reminded of the generous guests like you who make that goal possible. To show our appreciation we’re donating 100% of our net profits on September 23 to St. Jude. On The Big Day, all you have to do to help is come into Chili’s for a meal. It’s our way of saying thanks and supporting the brave kids of St. Jude.

September: National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month⇢

President Obama:

Every September, America renews our commitment to curing childhood cancer and offers our support to the brave young people who are fighting this disease. Thousands are diagnosed with pediatric cancer each year, and it remains the leading cause of death by disease for American children under 15. For those children and their families, and in memory of every young person lost to cancer, we unite behind improved treatment, advanced research, and brighter futures for young people everywhere.

House Republicans Attempt to Hold Federal Budget Hostage Over Obamacare⇢

Jonathan Weisman:

House Republicans muscled through a stopgap bill Friday that would fund the government only if all spending for President Obama’s health care law is eliminated. Senate Democrats and President Obama quickly made it clear they had no intention of going along, putting the government on a course toward a shutdown unless one side relents.

The 230-to-189 party-line vote in a bitterly divided House set in motion a fiscal confrontation with significant implications — politically and economically — but with an uncertain ending. Without a resolution, large parts of the government could shut down Oct. 1, and a first-ever default on federal debt could follow weeks later.

On Apple’s Media Tour and Scott Forstall

Two interviews with Apple executives have popped up this morning.

The first, at Business Week, includes Tim Cook, Jony Ive and Craig Federighi. It paints Apple’s executives as sure-footed. Here’s a section discussing the cry of some for a cheaper iPhone:

To Cook, the mobile industry doesn’t race to the bottom, it splits. One part does indeed go cheap, with commoditized products that compete on little more than price. “There’s always a large junk part of the market,” he says. “We’re not in the junk business.” The upper end of the industry justifies its higher prices with greater value. “There’s a segment of the market that really wants a product that does a lot for them, and I want to compete like crazy for those customers,” he says. “I’m not going to lose sleep over that other market, because it’s just not who we are. Fortunately, both of these markets are so big, and there’s so many people that care and want a great experience from their phone or their tablet, that Apple can have a really good business."

On TextExpander and iOS 7⇢

Greg Scown over at Smile:

When you update to iOS 7, you may find that TextExpander doesn’t work in some apps which did work on iOS 6. Due to a change in iOS 7, those apps no longer have access to shared snippets. We have communicated with developers whose apps support TextExpander, and we’ve provided them an updated SDK with a new way to share snippet data. Many developers are working hard to ensure their apps are updated. Bear in mind that review times and other issues are beyond their control.

The Past 100 Days

Today’s a big day.

With iOS 7 rolling out now, most iOS customers are seeing a deluge of app updates on their devices. I’ve seen 17 so far today, and that’s just on my iPhone.

In thumbing through these apps today, it’s amazing how much work and care the developer community has put into these updates.

Last month, I wrote about how I feared many apps would lose their personality thanks to the changes in iOS 7’s UI:
