‘Unbelievably Wild, Crazy Ass iPhone Rumor’
That Sprint is buying $20 billion worth of iPhones is kind of crazy. But not as crazy as what Boy Genius just posted: The iPhone 5 is going to be a Sprint exclusive, and it’s going to have WiMax 4G.
Specifically, this iPhone 5 will have an even “faster” CPU, with a “larger 4-inch screen similar to LG’s NOVA display but with a higher resolution,” “iPhone 5 exclusive software and APIs,” 32GB of storage and a “dedicated Assistant button” that might somehow be integrated into a new home button. And WiMax. Meanwhile, AT&T and Verizon will get the iPhone 4S, not getting the iPhone 5 until “the first quarter of next year as an LTE device,” while “the iPhone 5 might be available as a 4G HSPA+ device” globally.
My Official Predictions for Apple’s iPhone Event on Tuesday
- Apple will release something new that will be pretty good.
- People will be disappointed, thanks to the insane rumor mill.
- I will mark “All as read” in Google Reader after the event and order a new phone.
Dave Caolo, on Launchpad’s Simplicity
He nails why hardcore Mac users don’t like the new feature:
Remember, geeks like you and me are the minority of Mac customers.
iPhone 5 Hardware Mockup Surfaces
While these guys may have too much free time, I’d totally buy the next iPhone1 if it looked like that.

Who am I kidding? I’ll be ordering it no matter what. ↩︎

It’s amazing just how familiar these things look.
Apple to Kill iPod classic and shuffle?
We’ve been sitting on a tip for a while until things came into greater focus, but now that the speculation meter has exploded, it’s a good time to tell you all what we’ve heard. It seems that the “product transition” Apple mentioned on the last earnings call could very well be within the iPod line. Specifically, if you want to buy an iPod shuffle or iPod classic from Apple, you should do it sooner rather than later. We’ve heard those two iPods are getting the axe this year.

Speaking of Rhapsody...
If you’ve always wanted a PDF of the installation guide, but couldn’t find one, today is your day.
From Mac OS 7.6 to Rhapsody
In 1997 — just after the company bought NeXT — Apple showed off its plans to move from Mac OS to Rhapsody, the code name given to the work that would ultimately birth Mac OS X.
In March 1997, Apple executives outlined this plan and its benefits. Now in 2011, it’s obvious that Steve Jobs’ vision would indeed become the driving force for the Mac OS for years to come.
