Connected #196: Live from WWDC 2018⇢

Our live WWDC show was last night and it was a ton of fun:

In this very special live episode, Stephen is joined by Jason Snell and Serenity Caldwell to talk about macOS Mojave and Screen Time before going over the Happy-o-meter results and talking about Shortcuts with Myke and Federico.

My thanks to the sponsors that made it possible:

  • Microsoft: Learn about building intelligent iOS apps that scale
  • Away: Travel smarter with the suitcase that charges your phone. Get $20 off with the code ‘connected’.

The All-New Mac App Store⇢

Apple:

The Mac App Store made it easy for millions of customers around the world to discover and download Mac apps. Now completely redesigned, the Mac App Store on macOS Mojave offers a richer experience so customers can find apps that help them create, work, play, and develop, even more easily.

I’m cautiously optimistic about the new Mac App Store, if only because BBEdit and Transmit will be back for sale in it. New layouts and editorial content are great, but if high-profile developers don’t move (back) to it, none of that matters all that much.

Casey Joins the Ranks of Indie Nerds⇢

Casey Liss:

In around a month, I will no longer have a traditional job. I will be focusing my energy most especially on my family, with my two podcasts and side projects like Casey on Cars following behind. I do have some other things in the hopper, other than Casey on Cars, but I’m reticent to announce them before I know they’re ready.1

I’m also entertaining other kinds of work. The impetus for this change is about being around for my family, so I don’t want to take on a 40 hour per week gig. However, if you need a hand with something interesting — especially if it involves either teaching or leveraging RxSwift — let me know.
