macOS Sierra Fixes Disk Utility’s Typos

Forget Siri, iCloud and whatever has you excited about macOS Sierra. With this version of macOS, Apple has corrected the typos I found in Disk Utility.

The Erase Disk sheet used to read:

Erasing “DISK NAME” will destroy of all the data stored on it. Enter a name, choose a format.

The sheet now says:

Erasing “DISK NAME” will delete all data stored on it, and cannot be undone. Provide a name and format, and click Erase to proceed.

Voyager Golden Record Kickstarter⇢

A new Kickstarter project has grabbed my attention:

Experience the historic interstellar message for extraterrestrials the way it was meant to be played.

In 1977, NASA’s Voyager I and II probes were sent to explore the outer solar system1 and beyond. In fact, Voyager I holds the distinct record of being the first human-built object to enter interstellar space.

In addition to cameras and sensors, the space craft are carrying a special payload:

macOS Sierra Review

Over the past several years, Mac OS X macOS releases have gotten smaller and less exciting.

OS X Yosemite brought a new design to the Mac, but past that, most users can’t tell the difference between it and El Capitan, let alone what was new in Mountain Lion or Mavericks.

Even though PPTP protocol is still available on iOS 9 and earlier or OS X El Capitan and earlier, we don’t recommend that you use it for secure, private communication.

September: Beyond Medicine⇢

Instead of running RSS sponsorships this month, I’m raising money in support of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital as part of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Click here to learn more and donate.

When our son was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2009, we were thrust into the world of chemotherapy. As some of you heartbreakingly know, chemo is rough. The meds are brutal, and the side effects are enough to make anyone fall to their knees and plead for mercy. Josiah was just 7 months old when he got his first round of chemotherapy.

My iPhone 7 Plus is Emitting Noise From Logic Board (Updated)

As my iPhone 7 Plus was restoring from iCloud, I thought I noticed some sound. After picking the device up from my desk, it was clear the sounds are coming from back of the phone, possibly from the CPU. It seems to get worse if the iPhone is under load. It’s loud enough to be heard even if the iPhone is just sitting on the table. I don’t have to put it up to my ear to hear it.
