The X is Dead

Gizmodo has published a collection of photos showing the various retail boxes OS X has come packaged in over the last 8 year.

With the release of 10.6 this Friday, Apple is going to be taking a big step away from the “X” themed boxes. Instead, the Snow Leopard retail box features, well, a snow leopard.

Gizmodo complains about this:

I can haz clip art? Come on, Apple. What’s wrong with you?

While I’ll miss the “X” art, the photo Apple is using of a snow leopard is far from basic clipart — it’s actually a stunning photograph. It’s sad to see the X go, but this isn’t a bad alternative.
