The Apple ecosystem has no shortage of ways to share files. There are countless apps and services that aim to make this as easy as possible. With a lot of the articles we write here at The Sweet Setup, we are comparing apps and services that are virtually identical outside of user interface. With this category, that is not the case. These apps, while appearing similar, all have a different focus.
Ecamm is a familiar name to most podcasters. The company’s $29 Call Recorder for Skype allows for easy capture of both local and remote sides of a Skype call, making it easy to get a show out the door quickly.
Late this week, the company released a similar tool for FaceTime.
The app allows you to convert a call to an .mp3 and will capture HD video if you’re on a FaceTime call that’s more than just audio.

Just this week, I’ve received packages from UPS, USPS, Fedex, and DHL from 3 different retailers. Each of these carriers use tracking numbers, but their websites are all annoying to use, especially on the go. On iOS and OS X, instead of having to check multiple carriers multiple times, you can have one app that manages it all.
What are we looking for in an app to track packages?
After a little bit of a misfire on the Mac App Store earlier today, Evernote 6.0 for Mac is out, with a new look for Yosemite. There are no major new features; just a new, flatter, more transparent UI that looks a lot more at home on OS X Yosemite.
I thought the App Store was broken. Jason Snell explains it’s just dumber than it used to be.

Evernote announced today that it has raised $20 million in new capital from Nikkei, the Japanese media conglomerate that publishes the influential financial newspaper Nikkei, as well English-language Nikkei Asian Review. In addition, the Nikkei will also start feeding articles into Evernote’s Context feature, which launched last month.
File this away for the complaining we’ll all hear later this month.
In today’s iOS and Mac update, Evernote added a new feature for premium users named Context. Here’s the description from the release notes:
Premium feature: Context
- Context displays notes, articles, and people related to what you’re working on
- View related articles from The Wall Street Journal and other sources and related people from LinkedIn and your business
That first bullet point isn’t all that new. For a while now, Evernote has been able to show related notes in the Mac app, but pulling in data from the web is new. Here’s a list of sources that can appear in Evernote based on the content of the current note:

The truth is, blood glucose measurement support in the Health app is ridiculously rudimentary as it is, even if it worked properly. A typical person with diabetes needs to monitor their blood sugar levels anywhere from 3 to 10 times a day, sometimes even more (you need to take additional tests in case of hypoglycemia, which is a fairly common event). There’s no way a significant portion of those people are going to take the extra effort to manually log each and every measurement in the Health app. I know I don’t, and if this feature has failed to encourage me — an Apple enthusiast and technologically savvy young man — to use it, its chances of convincing regular users are pretty slim.

There’s no shortage of Markdown editors to choose from, and many of them are fantastic. We think Byword is the best of the bunch because it hits the sweet spot between simplicity and functionality. Byword offers a calm writing environment, yet has just enough features under the hood enough to make you a happy and more productive writer.
