On Scrup
For some time, I’ve been using Droplr, but I’ve always had a few reservations about it:
- I only ever use it for screen shots.
- I don’t have access to the files on my own server, as Droplr uses an S3 account they control.
This morning, in an attempt to avoid a big project I should be working on, I decided to try to find an alternative. I have, in Scrup.
Scrup in an open-source menubar app that — when coupled with your own FTP server — re-creates the main functionality of Droplr — easy sharing.
On Evernote
I’ve been playing around with Evernote for the first time in years, and I have to say, the app has come a long way. I’m really pleased with it as a place to catch random bits of information in a way I can get to easily from my Mac, iPhone or iPad.
Currently, I have some text notes, a bunch of images and a crapton of PDFs in there. While Evernote won’t replace writing in plaintext/Markdown for me, it is replacing a bunch of folders I had floating around on my Dropbox in a nicely-designed application.

Redbox and Verizon Vs. Netflix
Telecommunications company Verizon Communications Inc. and Redbox video-kiosk owner Coinstar Inc. said Monday they will launch an online service in the second half of the year that features streaming videos and downloads.
The companies offered few details of the venture, in which Verizon will own a 65% stake and Redbox will hold the other 35%.
As a Verizon customer, I’d prefer better service over a Netflix rival, but that’s just me.
