Kbase Article of the Week: Mac OS X 10.4.2 or Later: Installing and Removing Dashboard Widgets⇢

Apple Support:

Downloading, installing, and removing Dashboard widgets has been greatly improved in Mac OS X 10.4.2 and later. For the best widget installation experience, be sure to update to the latest version of Mac OS X 10.4.

In short, when you ran a Dashboard widget for the first time, it was in “test drive” mode, meaning you had to tell Mac OS X you wanted to keep it installed after playing around with it the first time.

Macintosh Manager: About the Hand Out Feature⇢

Apple Support:

A Macintosh Manager administrator can hand out files to members of the currently active workgroup, or to specific users that belong to the active workgroup (Figure 1). This feature is only available when logged in as a Macintosh Manager administrative user, either a Workgroup Administrator or a Global Macintosh Manager Administrator. Kbase Article of the Week: If Your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch Won’t Turn on or is Frozen⇢

Apple Support:

If your device has a frozen screen, doesn’t respond when you touch it, or becomes stuck when you turn it on, learn what to do.

I’ve had this happen a couple of times on my 11 Pro, and I can never remember the button presses needed to reset it:

  • iPad models with Face ID: Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Then press and hold the Power button until the device restarts.
  • iPhone 8 or later: Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Then press and hold the Side button until you see the Apple logo.
  • iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, and iPod touch (7th generation): Press and hold both the Top (or Side) button and the Volume Down buttons until you see the Apple logo.
  • iPad with Home button, iPhone 6s or earlier, and iPod touch (6th generation) or earlier: Press and hold both the Home and the Top (or Side) buttons until you see the Apple logo.

The Macintosh SE chassis is capable of holding two 3.5-inch storage devices. The Macintosh SE and Macintosh SE/30 logic boards use the same amount of space in the Macintosh SE chassis. The Macintosh SE/30 logic board has only one internal floppy-drive connector.

Kbase Article of the Week: Apple RAID: Maximum Block Size is 512 Bytes⇢

Apple Support, in an ancient article:

After initializing a hard disk with a 4096 byte block size using FWB Hard Disk Took kit, I could not initialize the volume with Apple RAID 1.5 because the block size was greater than 512 bytes.

Apple RAID does not support these drives, as 512 is the standard maximum for block sizes. It will allow you to format them, but that’s all. No volumes, no mounts, no driver support. This is as designed.

Kbase Article of the Week: iMac: Pressing Apple USB Keyboard Power Button Does Not Turn on Computer⇢

Apple Support:

Press the power button on the front on the iMac computer instead.

You can use the Apple USB Keyboard with all iMac computers, but the circuitry that enables the keyboard’s Power button is not present on the models listed above. Therefore, pressing the Power button on the keyboard will have no effect.

Then, there’s this gem:

The parenthetical product descriptions (Summer 2000) and (Summer 2001) refer to the summer of the Northern Hemisphere.
