RSS Sponsor: Timing - The Automatic Mac Time Tracking App ⇢

Screenshot of Timing

Time is your most precious resource. You need to know how you are spending it.

But time tracking sucks. Big Time. (Pun intended.)

Timing fixes that.

It automatically tracks which apps, documents and websites you use — without start/stop timers. See how you spend your time, eliminate distracting activities, and improve your client billing.

I recently uninstalled my Twitter client from my iMac after seeing how often I had it in the foreground. It was a little shocking, and Timing helped show me how much time I was wasting with it. Because Timing is aware of the apps that are running, this was an easy task to complete.

Timing lets you stop worrying about time and focus on doing your best work instead! Mind you, this data is super sensitive, so Timing keeps it safe on your Mac.

Not convinced yet? Download the free 14-day trial today and get 10% off until the end of November.

Timing is also available on Setapp, the service that gives you access to more than 100 great Mac apps for just $9.99 per month.

Austin Mann Takes the iPhone X to Guatemala ⇢

Austin Mann:

I really like the iPhone X - it’s fresh, it’s fast, it’s beautiful and it’s really fun to shoot with. I’m still adapting to its new interface but the size is right, screen is great for sharing photos on and the improvements on the telephoto lens make it a no-brainer.

For me, I think it’s safe to say this upgrade to iPhone X is most exciting phone upgrade I’ve experienced since switching from my Blackberry 7230 to the original iPhone in 2007.

Apple Reports Fourth Quarter Results

Apple:

Apple today announced financial results for its fiscal 2017 fourth quarter ended September 30, 2017. The Company posted quarterly revenue of $52.6 billion, an increase of 12 percent from the year-ago quarter, and quarterly earnings per diluted share of $2.07, up 24 percent. International sales accounted for 62 percent of the quarter’s revenue.

“We’re happy to report a very strong finish to a great fiscal 2017, with record fourth quarter revenue, year-over-year growth for all our product categories, and our best quarter ever for Services,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “With fantastic new products including iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, Apple Watch Series 3, and Apple TV 4K joining our product lineup, we’re looking forward to a great holiday season, and with the launch of iPhone X getting underway right now, we couldn’t be more excited as we begin to deliver our vision for the future with this stunning device.”

“Apple’s year-over-year revenue growth rate accelerated for the fourth consecutive quarter and drove EPS growth of 24 percent in the September quarter,” said Luca Maestri, Apple’s CFO. “We also generated strong operating cash flow of $15.7 billion and returned $11 billion to investors through our capital return program.”

This is an all-time record 4th quarter for the company, and the largest for its services business. Only eight days of iPhone 8 sales are accounted for this in quarter.

62% of sales were outside the U.S., with all regions larger than this time last year other than Japan, which is down 11% year-over-year.

Apple Watch Series 3 May Show "Edge Stripes" ⇢

Joe Rossignol, MacRumors:

Apple has determined that some Apple Watch Series 3 models have an issue causing “edge stripes” to appear on the display after time.

In an internal memo distributed to Genius Bars and Apple Authorized Service Providers, Apple said the issue is to be treated like any other Apple Watch repair. Since the issue appears to be a manufacturing defect, the repair should be free under Apple’s standard one-year limited warranty policy.

Apple’s memo, obtained by MacRumors, identifies GPS models as being affected and not cellular models. The difference could be the result of LTE models having a different display assembly with an integrated antenna.
