CocoaConf Alt Canceled⇢

Jim Dalrymple at The Loop:

“We have decided to cancel CocoaConf Alt 2013. It turns out that it’s not just the hotel that had concerns, but that Apple has a policy of stopping ‘competing’ events in the area,” wrote CocoaConf Alt, Dave Klein. “You know and we know that CocoaConf Alt was not in competition with WWDC, but there just isn’t time to find the right person at Apple to explain that to, nor any guarantee that we could convince them if we found them.”

May

Four years ago this week, I wrote this:

I never thought I’d be the one to write a mass email like this. People you don’t know write emails like this. People your mother-in-law works with; those people write emails like this.

Needless to say, I’m shocked. But here we are.

Doctors have found a “significant” tumor on the interior of the right side of Josiah’s brain via a CT scan this afternoon. They are unsure what the tumor is at this point in time. The tumor is blocking the drainage system built into the brain, meaning that cranial fluid can’t escape.

RunKeeper Adds Pebble Support⇢

Dieter Bohn:

With the update, Pebble owners will be able to see their pace and mileage on their watch face, along with the ability to start or stop a workout. Unfortunately, you’ll still need to pull out your phone to get things started — launching the app on your phone automatically launches a companion app on the Pebble, at which point the two begin communicating with each other.

It’s a slow start, but apps are finally coming to the smartwatch.

RSS Sponsor: PDFpenPro 6 from Smile⇢

PDFpenPro is the advanced version of PDFpen. PDFpenPro does everything that PDFpen does, such as add signatures, edit text and images, perform OCR on scanned documents and export Microsoft Word documents. The new PDFpenPro 6 adds document permission settings. When you share a PDF, you can restrict printing, copying, and editing of your PDFs. You can also use the new automatic form field creation tool to convert a non-interactive form into an interactive PDF form with text fields and checkboxes automatically added.

Just Too Late⇢

Thomas Brand:

Fusion Drive, no one needs your fragile combination of storage technologies anymore. If Apple had really believed in you, they would have made you the default storage system on a Mac, any Mac. Instead you were neglected to a build-to-order-option. Even the top-of-the-line 27 inch iMac never shipped with a Fusion Drive standard. Fusion Drive, we will always remember you for the fast plentiful storage you promised. A great idea whose time came too late.

RIP, Creative Suite⇢

Harrison Weber at The Next Web:

Adobe has shared with us that Creative Suite 6 will still be available for purchase, but it will not be updated beyond addressing bugs and OS compatibility. There will be no Creative Suite 7.

“Everything moving forward is focusing on creative cloud” —Adobe Instead, Adobe is pointing all of its energy towards Creative Cloud, eliminating the familiar retail box in the process. Like last year, the company is releasing an updated suite of applications this June, newly branded as “CC” apps. This includes: Photoshop CC, InDesign CC, Illustrator CC, Dreamweaver CC and Premiere Pro CC.

The Bottom of the Barrel

I’ve cleared my Instapaper queue and I don’t have any unread books on my Kindle.

My inboxes are all at zero and there’s nothing left to mark as read.

I’ve laid out an iPhoto book of my vacation photos and am caught up on The Office. I even pre-ordered the 2013 AP Stylebook.

I’m bored. So very bored.

The Internet is usually a firehose of articles, links and images, but in the Apple-centric corner of the Internet things are a little slower than normal.
