Apple Watch Series 3 May Show "Edge Stripes"⇢

Joe Rossignol, MacRumors:

Apple has determined that some Apple Watch Series 3 models have an issue causing “edge stripes” to appear on the display after time.

In an internal memo distributed to Genius Bars and Apple Authorized Service Providers, Apple said the issue is to be treated like any other Apple Watch repair. Since the issue appears to be a manufacturing defect, the repair should be free under Apple’s standard one-year limited warranty policy.

iPhone X Pre-order Notes

I, like many of you, ordered an iPhone X earlier today. Here are some notes on my experience.

Pre-orders roll around at 2 AM in my time zone. I set an alarm for 1:50 AM and another for 1:52. I even set HomeKit to turn on my lamp at 1:51, but that silently failed.

I successfully ordered an AT&T 256 GB iPhone X in Silver from Apple. I have an in-store pickup scheduled for 8 AM on launch day, November 3. The order process went very smoothly for me. I tapped the Silver iPhone, added AppleCare+, gave the App Store my AT&T phone number and paid with Apple Pay.

Angela Ahrendts Profiled by BuzzFeed⇢

Nicole Nguyen at BuzzFeed’s profile is pretty great. This part jumped out at me, naturally:

Ahrendts also made a number of refinements to in-store service. Going to the Apple Store “shouldn’t be like going the dentist,” she said. You can now get a text message when someone at the Genius Bar is available, instead of having to wait around. That bar has also been, in some locations, refashioned into an airy “Grove” with additional seating. Updating the Genius area may be the most visible operations work Ahrendts is doing. Getting a broken iPhone, Mac, or iPad serviced remains a frustrating experience for many.

Apple: Remove Touch Bar Data Before Selling MacBook Pro⇢

As noted by Zac Hall, this kbase article about prepping your Mac for sale has a surprise step for those of us with Touch Bar Macs:

You can clear any information stored by the Touch Bar before you sell or give away your MacBook Pro.

First, start up from macOS Recovery: Hold down Command-R on your keyboard immediately after pressing the power button to turn on your Mac, or immediately after your Mac begins to restart.

There’s No i in Keyboard

As outlined in the most recent episode of Connected, the keyboard on my Late 2016, 13-inch TouchBar-equipped MacBook Pro is not doing well.

A couple of weeks ago, its i key started feeling a little sticky. This keyboard does not boast a large amount of travel, but this key was barely moving at all when pressed.

I assumed a tiny bit of dust or other debris had worked it way under the key. This is a bit of a known problem with these laptops, as Casey Johnston has noted at The Outline in an article titled “The New MacBook Keyboard is Ruining my Life.” She writes:

Newest Mac mini Turns Three⇢

I would have missed the anniversary without this blog post by Brian Stucki:

It’s been three years since the current Mac mini was released on Oct 16, 2014. “All About That Bass” was the number one song in the land. Four hundred million humans have been born since that day and have never known a new Mac mini. My daughter is one of them. She already walks and talks and just moved to her big-girl bed. Three years is a long time.
