Apple has announced that the WWDC Keynote, Platforms State of the Union and Apple Design Awards are all taking place on Monday, June 6.
I am really excited to see what Apple has in store this year — and I’ll be there in person for the keynote.
In addition to the Harry Potter iPod and the U2 iPod, there is another special edition iPod that was a little … less special.
Let’s talk about the HP iPod.

Near the iPod’s zenith, Apple split the Genius Bar into three distinct experiences. The iPod Bar became a hub for iPod support and The Studio became a home for creative projects.
Apple Ginza and Apple SoHo were the first stores to add iPod Bars in 2005. Apple Fifth Avenue opened in 2006 with a combined 45-foot iPod Bar, Genius Bar, and The Studio. Then the iPhone arrived.

iCloud Documents and Data, our legacy document syncing service, has been discontinued and replaced by iCloud Drive. If you used iCloud Documents and Data, your account has been migrated to iCloud Drive.
iCloud Documents was introduced years ago; iCloud Drive was introduced in 2014.1 I can’t imagine this is going to be a problem for many users.
iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite didn’t come out at the same time. After updating to iOS 8, users had to decide if they wanted to hold off on iCloud Drive to maintain compatibility with OS X Mavericks, or upgrade to the new system and cause all sorts of havoc. As Peter Cohen wrote at the time, it was a real mess for some folks. ↩︎
The original Apple TV was basically a low-powered Intel Mac. As such, people have installed all sorts of wacky things on them over the years, but this is the first memory upgrade I’ve seen:

It’s painfully clear that the current generations of iPhone weren’t designed with self-repair in mind.

On Thursday, Apple announced its results for the second quarter of its 2022 fiscal year. It was a March quarter record of $97.3 billion in revenue, with all-time quarterly records for iPhone, Mac, and Wearables sales.
I’m starting to think Apple is going to be okay.
This morning, Apple announced the opening of its Self Service Repair Store:
The new online store offers more than 200 individual parts and tools, enabling customers who are experienced with the complexities of repairing electronic devices to complete repairs on the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 lineups and iPhone SE (3rd generation), such as the display, battery, and camera. Later this year the program will also include manuals, parts, and tools to perform repairs on Mac computers with Apple silicon.
