Apple Prioritizing MacBook Keyboard Repairs⇢

Joe Rossignol, with good news for owners of machines with the dreaded butterfly keyboards, quoting from an internal Apple memo he got his hands on:

Most keyboard-related repairs will be required to be completed in store until further notice. Additional service parts have been shipped to stores to support the increased volume.

These repairs should be prioritized to provide next-day turnaround time. When completing the repair, have the appropriate service guide open and carefully follow all repair steps.

Guilherme Rambo: macOS 10.15 to Ship with Screen Time and Siri Shortcuts⇢

Guilherme Rambo, continuing an incredible week at 9to5Mac:

Apple is working on bringing the Mac and iOS closer together with the introduction of macOS 10.15 and iOS 13. Siri Shortcuts, Screen Time, and more are expected to be unveiled for Mac during its Worldwide Developers conference in June.

According to people familiar with the development of macOS 10.15 – which has been in the works for at least two years – the new version will include support for Siri Shortcuts, a feature introduced in iOS 12 which allows users to create custom voice shortcuts for actions that can be done in apps.

9to5Mac Spills the iOS 13 Beans⇢

Guilherme Rambo has brought the heat this Monday morning, reporting that iOS 13 will include a system-wide dark mode, a new universal undo gesture, a more robust version of Safari and better font management. Then there’s this:

There are many changes coming to iPad with iOS 13, including the ability for apps to have multiple windows. Each window will also be able to contain sheets that are initially attached to a portion of the screen, but can be detached with a drag gesture, becoming a card that can be moved around freely, similar to what an open-source project called “PanelKit” could do.

Snell, on the 2019 iMac⇢

Jason Snell, writing at Six Colors:

The 2019 iMacs are a contradiction. They are brand-new computers that somehow feel like the last members of a dying order. They are shells designed in 2012 that somehow contain 8th- and 9th-generation Intel processors. They represent Apple’s broad-appeal entry-level Mac desktop, but can also offer power to rival the performance of the base-model iMac Pro. They are part of a legacy that once represented the core of the Mac market, but now fills specific niches in a world devoured by mobile technology.

The Closing iMac/iMac Pro Gap⇢

For a while now, if you’ve been looking at a high-end iMac, there has been an obvious, looming question:

Should I just buy the iMac Pro instead?

Jason Snell, writing at Macworld, tackles this dilemma:

What this all suggests is that the iMac Pro is exactly what Apple says it is—a high-end iMac with a whole bunch of special high-end features that’s most appropriate for people who use high-end professional apps that have been optimized for Apple’s professional Mac architecture. If that sounds like you, congratulations—you’re ready to take the leap across the iMac Pro gap. (You may want to consider buying an even higher-end iMac Pro than the base model—many of my friends agree that the 10-core model might be the best mix of price and performance.)

Apple has canceled the AirPower product completely, citing difficulty meeting its own standards.

macOS 10.14.4 Breaking Google Account Authentication for Some⇢

After upgrading my MacBook Pro to macOS 10.14.4 this morning, macOS has been asking me to re-authenticate the G Suite accounts I use in Mail.

For some background, I use Mail with one regular Gmail account and two G Suite accounts. Both of the latter asked to be logged back in, weirdly, hours apart:

Update: A few hours later, my regular Gmail account asked to be logged in again, too.
